As an association, Memoriav’s objective is to preserve and index Switzerland’s audiovisual cultural heritage and in doing so, it contributes to the enlargement of the country’s collective memory. Memoriav has formed and fosters a network of institutions and individuals who preserve, produce or benefit from Switzerland’s audiovisual heritage, with the goal of exchanging expertise and information and better utilising existing resources. Memoriav initiates projects that preserve, describe/index and improve the accessibility of Switzerland’s audiovisual heritage. Memoriav supports and manages such projects, while taking professional standards and ethics into consideration.
Memoriav is an association pursuant to Article 60 ff. of the Swiss Civil Code. It was founded in 1995.
Its organs are the general meeting, the board of directors, the Director and the office, the independent commission and the controlling body:
The General Meeting is the association’s highest body and unites all its members.
The Board, which is responsible for the strategic management of the association, comprises between five and seven people from among its members.
The Director, together with his or her team, is responsible for the association’s operational management (go to the office). This includes, in particular, implementing measures to preserve and distribute audiovisual Heritage.
At the request of applicants, an independent commission examines grant decisions. The commission consists of three to five independent persons.
The auditors regularly review the association’s annual financial statements in accordance with the requirements for limited auditing.
Memoriav works with a national centre of excellence in each specialist area, as well as operating an excellence network in each area, where experts address the current and future technical, content-related and higher-level issues.
