A free-to-access and open resource for digital preservation advocacy, the DPC’s Global Bit List of Endangered Digital Species (or Bit List for short) is a community-sourced list of at-risk digital materials which is revised every two years. Entries to the list are nominated by the community, who are at the forefront of digital preservation efforts, and reviewed by international organizations which represent global expertise in the preservation of the listed digital species.

Each Guidance Note in the Data Types series is designed to provide a primer on the current state of community knowledge about data types commonly encountered by those seeking to preserve digital holdings.
The notes document broadly applicable good practices that have been established as a result of many years of research, practical implementation, and consensus building as well as preservation challenges to be aware of. These are presented within the Guidance Notes as a starting point, along with additional resources for further exploration.

FADGI alongside partners at RiceCapades and MediaArea, worked with colleagues across the digital preservation community on the revision of the „Guidelines for Embedding Metadata in Broadcast WAVE Files“ (version 3) and corresponding updates to the open source BWF MetaEdit application which are now available.
The 2021 FADGI Guidelines reflect the evolving needs of a wide range of audio preservation practitioners as identified through user interviews and community feedback from collaborators at Library of Congress‘ National Audio-Visual Conservation Center, Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, public radio station WNYC and Northeast Document Conservation Center’s Audio Preservation Services.

Marketing, communication, documentation, patrimoine…

In order to promote and support the responsible and trustworthy management of the Library’s vast digital collections, the Digital Collections and Management Services (DCMS) Division of the Library of Congress works to identify, collocate, document, and coordinate guidance across the Library’s various departments of collection custodians. Guidance may be developed from policies, guidelines, best practices, and specifications that govern the Library’s digital collection management activities. These pages present the resulting product of this coordinative work: the Digital Collections Management Compendium (DCMC).
